There has been a lot of talk recently about "green collar" jobs. What sorts of "green collar" jobs are being created in PA?
How do PA's vast anthracite and bituminous coal reserves figure into "green" technology?
What is the status of wind power technology in PA?
Why are so many citizens opposed to wind technology?
What factors are behind the recent oil and natural gas exploration boom in PA?

Wind power has been increasing in individual places such as schools. But large wind turbines can take up land from residents in the area.
- Kyle Weary
People are against the wind power because it would take up space and take away residents home. The gas prices are so high because they need the money to repair roads and the country is in debt and they are using some of that money to help the debt/

Wild energy should do wind energy because it is cleaner and free

The energy crisis is falling yet with a few simple ways to improve it and save energy such as using the dishwasher earlier, and using energy saving light bulbs. Along with new ways to create energy such as wind and solar energy.
Pennsylvania sould face a dramatic change from increases in the number of extreme heat days to a decline in important tree species.

The pennsylvania electric association was created when it was obvious that the electric utilities in Pennsylvania could be more effetive by working together.

we are the biggest producers of anthracite coal in the country. It is the cleanest burning coal and we have big reserves of this type of coal.
- PA holds substantial reserves of coal as well as oil and natural gas. The renewable resources are abundant as well.
- Small river basins can be used as hydropower resources.
- PA is the leading state in the northeast for refining petroleum.
- To reduce emissions of smog forming pollutants, motorists in the heavily populated areas of southeastern PA are required to use reformulated motor gas blended with ethanol.
- Oil prices spike during winter months due to the high demand for heating homes.
- PA is one of the top coal consuming states in the nation.
- It is also one of the top electricity producing states in the nation and the production of electricity exceeds the states demand for it.
-With the help of grants, from the Department of Energy, the state has joined a regional partnership currently researching carbon sequestration technology.
- Pennsylvania is among the largest users of municipal solid waste and landfill gas for electricity generation.

I learned:
- In 2007, 142 billion gallons (about 390 million gallons per day) was used.
- Most gas is used in cars and trucks. Boats and recreational vehicles, as well as farm, construction, and landscaping equipment use a percentage of the
gas well.
...that's all I have.
Wind power is a good option for pa , at this point anything is better than how things are going.
CHRISTIAN ALBRIGHT!!!
Wind power is a great option for power its free, clean and only has a few downfalls which are taking up too much land and the turbines create a lot of noise.
PA is the leading petroleum-refining state in the Northeast. We should find new ways of making energy. there have been 2 proposed natural gas projects which could increase supply to PA's markets in the future. One of them is an eastern expansion of the proposed Rockies Express Pipeline system from the Rocky Mountains supply basin and the second is a proposed liquefied natural gas terminal in Logan Township, New Jersey.
Pennsylvania is in an energy crisis, which is caused by pollution and gas, or oil. the goal of energy groups such as the office of energy and technology deployment is to work with citizen groups, businesses, trade organizations, local governments, and communities to help them reduce pollution and save energy. part of doing this includes encouraging the deployment, using innovative environmental, and advanced energy techniques, including renewable energy. the mission of another association called, the energy association of pennsylvania is to help our member companies meet their customer and share holder expectations, achieve shared corporate goals, demonstrate to government officials and the public that we are valuable corporate citizens, and promote the value of electricity and natural gas while encouraging its efficient use. protecting the environment is a big part of saving energy, because everything that people do pretty much involves energy.
The energy crisis had a lot to do with the expenses and the amount of resourses. They were also thinking on making a fuel from corn and grain(ethonal).hopefully some really smart person will be able to create the ethonal car.

i learned that energy can be saved by car pooling.
i have learned that in the past few years they have been starting to bring out more wind powered fans to make energy. By doing that it will not take as much gasoline. However if they start to put too many wind fans in, it will take away a lot more places where they can put houses. If they were to use wind mills, people wouldn't be polluting with so much gas an we can save more gas and oil that way and then the gas and oil wouldn't be so costly.
Governor Edd Rendell signed a bill to fund support to conservation to renewable energy.
Thomas Einwechter
Our nation consumes 34% of global energy.
Pennsylvnia's main source of power is it's
nuclear industry, and provides 36% of the
states electricity. The state of Pennsylvnai
works at coming up with new ideas for the
production of energy, ideas like long-term
hydrogen Vehicle develpment, $140 million
in energy efficiency improvements, and to
develop solar power storage and heat transfer
projects for up to $67.6 million. The $67.6
million doller projects (solar power and heat
transfer projects) are believed to improve the
development of lower-costing energy storage.
The energy association of Pennsylvania's plan
is to exploit the costs of electricity and natural
gas, which means they want people to try to do
something about the costs and inperfections
of how expensive energy is today. More
nuclear reactors are being decomissioned than
built, do to low Uranium reserves. Oil
production peaked in 2006, but is now
declining. Oil production will continue to
decline starting not to 2030 and will continue
to decline for years to come.
Barack Obama's plan to elimanate the energy
crises he says is to "end the age of oil in our
time". Obama has ideas of giving people
greenjobs to et rid of america's oil dependence,
and believes that if we dont change we could
spread "famine that would engulf our planet".
John Mccain says we cant stay dependent on
forign oil. Mccain wants to cut off the flow
of oil wealth to repressive dictatorshps like
Iran, which means that Irab is a bad country
to do buiseness with.
The first U.S. nuclear power plant came online in 1975 in Shipping Port PA.
Pennsylvania is second in the Nation in nuclear power generating capacity.
Then Energy Association of Pennsylvania provides help in distributing electricity and gas.
PA. is a major coal producing state, and sells about half to other states.
I learned about a program that help with Pennsylvania's energy problems called the EAP, who's members are in electric and natural distribution distribution companies .
PA is the leading Petroleum refining state in in the Northeast.
In June 1997 the EAP sponsored the Electro Technology Expo. to help promote economic and environmental value of electricity of PA.
The worlds 1st commercial oil well was in Titusville, PA.
In Western Pennsylvania the worlds first oil boom occured.
Pennsylvania's natural gas storage capacity is one of the highest in the Nation, and lets the state store the fuel during summer and get delivery back on track in the winter when fuel is needed to heat homes.
I also learned the climate change that is occuring and that the heat is going to begin to increase over time and certain speicies of trees are dieing out, but there are existing ways to avoid these consequences.
Barack Obama's View on the energy crisis is...
He plans to make a Windfalls tax to provide a 1,000 dollar emergency energy rebate to american families where as McCain does not support it.
Obama also wants to swap the oil from strategic petroleum reserves to cut prices.
Increase fuel economy statndards.
create a 7,000 doaller tax credit for people who buy advanced cars like the hybrid.
John McCain wants us to depend less on buying oil from over sea's and use out own recourses.
He has a clean car challenge which is to commit a 5,000 dollar tax credit for every person buying a zero carbon emission car.
Supports Flex-Fuel vehicles. and wants car makers to make 50% of cares FFv's
Also, he wants to create more green jobs and green technology.
Commit $2 billion every year to advance clean coal technologies.
Cap and Trade system to have limits on Greenhouse gas emissions, and allow for gradual reduction of emisions.
Encourage market for low carbon fuels lie wind, hydro, and solar power.
Etc.
Citizens of PA are opposed to wind energy because its not efficient, and if the wind suddenly stops blowing, you won't be able to use it.
Rachel Johnson
Rendell wants to encourage private homes and small businesses to use solar energy, using $650 million to support it.
The Alternative Energy Portfolio Standard of 2004 says that 18% of electricity should be from alternative energy by 2021 and that 8% should be wind and solar energy.
Laboratory safety is important in high school and college science labs so that chemicals and toxix substances do not get let into the air.
The government believes that financial incentives will get people to conserve energy.
"Green" buildings are built to conserve the most resources.
-RM :-D
If people took a little time to fix things around their house such as seal holes in walls/windows, put thermal curtains over windows in the winter, put florecent lightbulbs in their homes, and turn down heat a little bit, they would save a lot of money and energy every year. We need to find a way for wind energy and solar energy to become more available for people.
The coal mining industry is one of the largest in the nation and the Department of Energy and the state has joined a regional partnership currently researching carbon sequestration technology. PA also has the second biggest nuclear industry in the nation. The nuclear power plant provides 36% of the electricity to PA residents.
John McCain: -Believes in alternative energy. He also believes in off shore drilling as a supplement to importing oil.
Barack Obama: -Believes all incandecent light bulbs should be removed by 2012. His goal is to put more biodiesel cars on the road.
Brandon Drye
1.) Green collar jobs are blue collar jobs that help better the environment. A green collar job example is building fuel-efficient automobiles. Plus, anything to do with wind power, solar power, and cellulosic biomass fuels.
2.) Anthracite and bituminous coal are cheaper to mine and process than petroleum and natural gas.
3.) PA is the largest source of wind energy on the east coast and most of the turbines are in Western PA.
5.) Technology has advanced and the rise of oil and gas has made PA start to drill.
Rachel Johnson
The office of Energy and Technology Deployment have a plan to reduce the energy crisis. Their goal is to work together with citizens, businesses, groups, local governments, communities, and trade organizations to help reduce pollution and save energy. The Energy Associtation of PA is commited to satisfying the needs and interests of the Commonwealth's electric distribution companies and natural gas distibution companies. Pennsylvania's other contributing source of power is its nuclear industry, which places second in the Nation and provided 36% of the state's electricity. McCain's plan called The Lexington Project. This project includes, taking action to break our dependency on foreign oil by reforming our transportation sector, investing in clean, alternative, sources of energy, protecting the environment by adressing speculative pricing of oil. Obama's plan to solve the energy problem is to, provide short-term relief to American families facing pain at the pump, help create five million new jobs by strategically investing $150 billion over the next ten years more oil then we currently inport from the Middle East ad Venezuela combined. Put 1 million plug in hybrid cars, cars that can get up to 150 miles per gallon- on the road by 2015, cars that we will work to make sure are built her in America, ensure 10% of our electricity comes from renweable sources by 2010, and 25 percent by 2025. Implemet and economy-wide-cap-and trade program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050.
-Hannah Sollenberger
John McCain believes in promoting and expanding the use of our domestic supplies of natural gas. He wants to expand domestic oil exploration. McCain believes in finding alternative fuel sources and offshore drilling.
Barack Obama wants to provide short-term relief for families who can't afford to pay for gas. Ensure 10 percent of our electricity comes from renewable sources by 2012, and 25 percent by 2025. Eliminate Our Current imports from the Middle East and Venezuela within 10 Years.
Obama wants to increase the production of biodiesel and hybrid cars.
Environmental consultants, green building architects, solar energy and wind energy engineers, nuclear engineers, green vehicle engineers, organic farmers, environmental lawyers, and ecology educators are all types of "green collar" jobs being created in PA.
PA's vast anthracite and bituminous coal reserves figure into "green" technology in the way that a lot of jobs can be created in coal mines, and other coal activities.
Ed Rendell is a big fan of wind power technology. Pennsylvania's largest wind farm was opened in June of 2007, and it has been powering hundreds of thousands of homes since. Ed Rendell believes wind power is the way to go, so PA's status in windmill technology will be increasing in the future.
So many citizens are opposed to wind technology because wind power costs more than electricity generated from fossil fuels. The turbines kills birds, which doesn't please a lot of people. Also, wind farms are not always reliable.
The recent oil and natural gas exploration boom in PA is happening because we want to be ahead. We don't want to depend on other places to supply us with resources.
:D
Wind Power is an issue in Pennsylvania. It is free and we enjoy it.The fact that it is an issue is because if the wind turbines are too big it can take up land area from the people that live in that area.
-Samantha Griffin
Pennsylvania ranks second in the Nation for the nuclear power generating capacity. Pennsylvania is one of the top users in evergy in the United States today. The coal mining industry in Pa is one of the largest in the Nation. The Nuclear industry porvides 36% of the states electricty. Today Pa has joined together with other states to try and find an alternative to using more biodegradable and economy healthy than gas and pollutions. Energy generation is one of the major contributors of air pollutin. 35% is carbon dioxide, 75% is sulfur dioxide, and 38% is nitrogen oxide. The more new power plants built the more the numbers will go up in air pollution. Overall energy usage has increased by 5% in the last couple years. To prevent a rise in energy prices we should turn off lights when not being used, buy more energy friendly computers, and use light saving lightbulbs. Due to upcoming technology electric prices as well as energy are said to sky rocket within the next couple years.
